  7. Cyprus is home to 20 native species of rare orchid flowers.
  8. In winter around 10,000 Flamingos stop off at the salt lakes in Larnaca during their migration to warmer weather.
  9. The fortified sweet dessert wine, Commandaria, has been produced in the foothills of the Troodos mountain since 800 BC.
  10. United Kingdom still has control over 3% of the island.
  11. Cyprus came last in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1986.
